This week was so exciting in the world of sports we couldn't just give you one story. Here are the the ups, down, & wish they never were's of sports...
The Good
It's October so you know what that means, post season baseball baby!!! And for the first time since 2012, the Bronx Bombers are definitely participating. The Yankees clinched the Wild Card with their 10,000th win in a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. This is an especially significant feat for Yankee DH Alex Rodriguez who is coming off of a season suspension for PEDs. A-Rod leads the Yanks with 33 homeruns followed by Mark Teixeira (on 15-day DL) and former Brave Brian McCann.
The Bad
Bad is about the only way to describe the Atlanta Braves' season. They have had a tough year plagued by injury and just bad luck. With the season over and no chance of even making .500, the playoffs are nowhere in the cards. There have been very few ups to celebrate, but the team is looking forward to righting the ship for nest season. If they plan on competing, major moves will need to be made to bring in talent to fill the numerous holes in the lineup and some cash must be spent. Hopefully the front office sees this and will do what is needed. the 60-something wins they tallied this season will never cut it.
The Ugly
The SMU Mustangs were in the news again this week and it was an all too familiar story. The NCAA has banned the 'Stangs from the postseason for next season and Head Coach Larry Brown has been handed a 9 game suspension. This stems from a report conducted by the NCAA blaming Brown for knowing about and neglecting to act on multiple infractions which include academic fraud and not being forthcoming about them. It's definitely not a good look for the program and seems a bit unfair to the players, especially the ones that had no knowledge of it. If rules were broken, of course punishment is needed, but punish the right people, not everyone.
