This Thursday, April 30, 2015, the NFL Draft will take place in the Auditorium Theatre at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. The draft hasn't been in Chicago in over 50 years. With all the buzz around this year's draft class, it seems only right that there would be an escape from the norm. With the NFL celebrating the 50th Super Bowl all season long, this year's draft is sure to be a production.
While every year there is a huge debate over who will be drafted first, this year is a little bit different. This time around we have two, Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks competing for big bucks and that coveted first overall selection. An argument could easily be made for taking either one. Both are highly publicized talents with a knack for performing under the lights. Anywhere else, this would lead to a coin toss as to who would be the number 1 pick, but not in the Cave! Men don't believe in ties. There must be a winner. One must have something, be better than the other. Well today, we lay it all on the table! I'm here to tell you who should be picked first to be the future face of a franchise.
Both QB's have a similar physical makeup. Both were measured at 6'4", with the same arm length, with Winston being a bit heavier. While Mariota had better numbers at the combine, Winston blew on-lookers away with his Pro Day performance. Winston has had a few off the field issues that I personally don't give two s#!ts about, but have to be considered when gauging maturity level. Mariota is a great leader, but his on the field success could be attributed to the scheme in which he played. Both have been awarded college football's highest honor, but only Winston has claimed its biggest victory. As a matter of fact, Winston has claimed a lot of victories as a starter for the Seminoles. He only has one loss... to Mariota.
At the end of the day, I'm not at all concerned with what happens outside of football. Anything that affects the ability to perform on the field is all that matters. Jameis Winston is a pro style quarterback that is a proven passer with the ability to also affect the game with his feet. Marcus Marcus Mariota is a great character quarterback, whatever that means, that has yet to prove he can have a significant impact as an NFL signal caller. He is great athlete, but is questionable in the passing game. I don't know about you, but I'm putting my money on Famous Jameis! Tampa Bay, you are on the clock.
