Common Sense Gun Safety
- Background Checks - If they were actual gun owners, they would know that gun purchases already require a background check when bought from an FFL dealer. This should disqualify anyone from making another statement about common sense gun safety legislation.
- Gun Registration - What exactly is the point of this? All it does is make it impossible for a person to will a firearm to a relative after death. It creates more cost for gun owners which in turn limits the people who have the ability to defend themselves. Can't afford the cost of a transfer? Can't protect yourself from criminals who could care less about a transfer.
- Mandatory Waiting Periods - Another one that boggles my mind. We have heard numerous stories about people who have felt threatened, gone to purchase a firearm, told to wait X number of days, and were killed during that period. I understand this is supposed to be a cooling off period for people considering using their legally purchased firearms for evil, but criminals do not follow the laws. That's what makes them criminals. There are many other ways to obtain guns.
- Banning Certain Weapons - This is possibly the dumbest one of all! Banning a weapon because of how it looks is asinine. "It looks scary" should never be a reason for any decision. If that were the case, half of the American would be banned. Hell, I would have banned needles 25 years ago thinking like that! Those things scare the shit out of me! Instead, I realize the good that can come from these evil delivery systems of mystery liquid and learn to deal with them. This is the exact approach that needs to be taken to firearms. They can be used for so much good, we can't allow the way they look to make us forget that.
- Limited Capacity Magazines - Who in the hell came up with this?! Why is 10 the magic number?? I guess no one has ever been killed by a revolver, huh? Exactly! The fact of the matter is most people ARE killed with firearms that have a lower capacity round count. They're much easier to conceal. It just makes criminal sense. Putting a limit on the number of rounds I can carry in a firearm will make me, and millions of other gun owners do one thing, buy as many standard capacity magazines as we can get our freedom loving hands on, NOW! Why? They'll be grandfathered in and once again, we are the only ones that follow the laws.
- A Complete Firearms Ban - I don't even know why I'm addressing this one, but here goes... Let me start by saying this will never happen. Do you hear me? NEVER! I won't allow it. We can just leave it at that. Now let me play devil's advocate for a second. Let's say that somehow in a parallel, fucked up universe (California possibly), the government gets away with banning all firearms. law abiding citizens will be the only ones not armed. "But it's the law. No one will have a gun." Yea, I get that some feel that a law to make guns illegal will make them disappear, but remember one thing, criminals don't follow laws. And in this instance, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't either. That means that millions of law abiding patriots would overnight become criminals. If that doesn't sound ridiculous to you, I give up.
