Before we get to the nuts and bolts of firearms and other gear, I feel that it is only right that we discuss firearms safety. If I had to pick the single most important part of gun use and ownership, this would be it. Hands down.
Depending on whom you ask, there are many schools of thought on firearms safety. Just about everyone has their own set of rules that can easily be justified. For me, there are 4 basic rules that must be followed and pretty much everything else can be classified under one of them. They are as follows…
· Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded
· Never point a firearm at anyone or anything you are not willing to destroy
· Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire
· Be sure of your target and what is beyond it
These rules may seem like common sense to many, but they are vital to maintain a save gun environment. Of course, several factors go into how these rules are implemented. For example, if there are children in a house with guns, I would recommend keeping the firearms where they cannot be accessed by the children. Where and how is up to the gun owner, but remember rule #1 and treat the firearms as if they are loaded. Whether that means implementation of some kind of locking mechanism or locking firearms away in a type of safe must be determined by the gun owner. Just remember, the right to keep and bear arms is arguably our most powerful right as American citizens, and with great power comes great responsibility. You see what I did there? Thanks Uncle Ben!
Think I left something out? Do you have different rules that you follow? Questions? Concerns? Leave a comment! Let’s talk it out…

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions. The advice and tips that I give are based on personal experience, but are by no means to be taken as law. Please consult a trained, certified professional for all your firearms needs. Enjoy! Archives
