Everyone loves a good movie gunfight, right? Of course you do! Hollywood allows us to imagine ourselves living out cops and robber dreams on the big screen. However, sometimes TV, movies, and video games just go too far. Some of the things they do with guns are just... wrong! Here are a few cinematic gun myths that MUST be put to rest! Have you ever noticed that bad guys in movies can't hit the broad side of a barn?? Like seriously, they have all these guns, but miss damn near every shot they take! How do you expect to keep fools in check if you can't shoot? I just don't get it. This one KILLS me! The good guy never seems to run out of ammo. No matter how many times he pulls that trigger, the gun always has more rounds waiting to rip open a bad guy. I mean hey, we all want good to prevail over evil, but come on! Is a reload too much to ask?? Ever seen someone get shot in a movie and blown completely away? Literally? OF COURSE YOU HAVE! It happens all the time! Well, in movies it does. Bad guys are always thrown backwards off their feet when they get shot. I mean, bullets pack a lot of punch, right? Especially shotgun shells! Not quite... It's true that bullets exert a lot of energy on their target, but a person definitely won't be thrown 15 feet in the air because of it. Ok, I get it. Pillows put people to sleep, people are mostly quiet when they sleep. Sound concept, but this does NOT work for guns. At all. A pillow will do nothing more than put lent into a bullet wound. This is how you know s*** is about to get real! You've been pointing a gun a someone forever, but now you decide to cock the hammer. What kind of sense does that make?! I guess he wasn't really going to shoot at first. Everyone has a breaking point, huh... Somehow, no matter how awkward of a situation our hero is in, he has perfect aim! Upside down, spinning from the ceiling, laying on his back, using his off hand, riding in a car, not even looking, always! If this happened in real life, I promise all bad guys would retire. Why is it that the "gangsters" in movies always hold their guns sideways? I just want to know. I'm completely puzzled on this one. For some odd reason, in movies, bullets always make a "pew pew" sound when whizzing through the air. No clue where they got this from, but it's been used forever! Time after time movie makers use the wrong name for guns. Perhaps the most famous is in the movie Dirty Harry. We all know that Harry was carrying the infamous .44 Magnum revolver, right? Actually, no. Harry's gun is the Smith & Wesson Model 29, chambered in .44 Magnum. Either way, I'm pretty sure people will still be calling it The Dirty Harry .44 Magnum for a while.

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions. The advice and tips that I give are based on personal experience, but are by no means to be taken as law. Please consult a trained, certified professional for all your firearms needs. Enjoy! Archives
