Recently I was asked a great question! "If you had to live the rest of your life with only 5 guns, which would you pick?" The crazy thing is, that question has never even crossed my mind. I have a lot of firearms. Not enough to equip an army, but probably more than the government thinks i need (like I care about that). I never think of what I would choose if for some communist reason I was forced to limit myself to a specific number. This is America. I exercise the SHIT out of my freedom! But, for the sake of argument, I made a list... So! Here is how I came up with my "Just 5 Guns". I started by separating each gun into a category. To me, the most important gun anyone can own is the one that is going to be with them the majority of the time. For that reason, I'm starting my list with the Glock 19. Now Glock isn't my favorite pistol manufacturer, but they work and they are everywhere. There will be no problem finding spare parts, after market accessories, or spare mags. And of course the 9mm round was a no-brainer. Sometimes you need to reach out and touch something a little ways out. For that, I'm no doubt choosing the Remington 700 chambered in .308 Winchester. Throw on a decent scope and bipod on there and you have a rifle that is more than capable of placing accurate shots as far as your ability allows. Also, the ammunition is relatively inexpensive and can be found all across the country. The gun I would use to get out of a tight situation is the AK-47. Well, an AK variant. It's one of the most produced firearms ever, the rounds are dirt cheap and all over the world, and it refuses to break. There have been minimal changes made to the initial design and even some of the original AK-47s have been found to still run. I would throw an optic on, maybe a fore grip, and possibly get an SBR (short barreled rifle) version. Whatever i do to it, it'll still be an AK. Everyone that knows me knows that the shotgun is by far my favorite platform. It's big and badass and yells "Man" for all to hear. The racking of the action is like music to my ears and there is no sweeter song than the one played by the Remington 870! With over 10 million shotguns produced since 1951, there will be no shortage of parts. Add the Magpul furniture and is instantly turned into a work of art. With so many applications, it's my suggestion that everyone own at least one. Oh, and you know I must have a 12 gauge. It's the only way. If I'm going to have just 5 guns for the rest of my life, you'd better believe that one of them is going to be purely for fun! Think about it, most of us never have to fire our weapon in self defense, if you can't just go to the range and have fun every once in a while, what's the point?! For my fun gun, I'm going with the Browning M2 Machine gun or as many know her, Ma Deuce! Ma Deuce has been protecting freedom since World War II and is showing no signs of slowing down. She is the longest running production machine gun and can be seen from the battlefield to the movie screen. Just owning that type of firepower is amazing, but can you imagine shooting it?? Laying down 600 rounds per minute of .50 BMG is about as much fun as I will allow myself to have. And that's plenty!

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions. The advice and tips that I give are based on personal experience, but are by no means to be taken as law. Please consult a trained, certified professional for all your firearms needs. Enjoy! Archives
