- Be sure that your gun is reliable and regularly maintained. There is nothing worse than needing to defend your home and having your weapon fail.
- Have plenty of ammunition readily available. No one in a gun fight has ever complained about having too many bullets. Consider having spare magazines or even extended magazines handy. packing a small bag to be kept near your pistol is also a good option.
- Invest in a good light. One thing that ALL home defense firearms need is a light! Most burglars clock in when the sun goes down and don't bother to turn on lights before they enter a room. You need to be able to accurately differentiate friend from foe.
As with any firearm, it's always a good idea to train with your weapon. Also, designate a place that is readily accessible to safely store your pistol until you need it.
- Regularly clean and maintain your rifle.
- Have an ample amount of ammunition handy.
- Put a good, reliable light on it.
- Invest in a good optic with decent battery life. Red dots are great for fast target acquisition.
As always, training with a weapon before you need to use it is paramount.
