If you plan on owning firearms and interacting with other who own firearms, there are a few things you need to know. This is definitely one of those things. An extended clip isn't really a clip, it's a magazine. I know what you mean, and others will too, but there is a difference. Simply put, clips load magazines and magazines feed guns. Banana clip? Nope, it's a magazine also. Even the 100 round drums are magazines. Clips simply hold ammunition. Surplus 5.56 NATO rounds are often boxed, on stripper clips, for sale to the public. The SKS rifle has a fixed box magazine, which can be loaded with 10 rounds, held together by a stripper clip. The second example from the left in the above picture is an example of that. Another example of a type of clip would be moon clips, used to make loading revolvers easier. One of my favorite guns of all time, the World War II M1 Garand, is loaded using an 8 round Ebloc clip. Once the last round is fired, the clip pops out making a distinct "ping" noise. Ar-15s, AK-47s, Glocks, Uzis, Tommy Guns, M-16s, M-14s, AK-74s, 1911s, most of the commonly used semi-automatic guns all use magazines. Take a look at the picture one more time. Notice anything? All the magazines pretty much cover all of the bullets. You can still see them in the clips. This may not be the same for every case, but it's a good place to start. In the grand scheme of things, the person you're talking to will know exactly what you're talking about, some people just have to be a dick about it. Feel free to use the information here to shut them the F up forever. The Cave is not the place to be petty. #ManLaw

Haha! I made this graphic like back in 1997 or so. Glad to see it still floating around. I used a flatbed scanner and photoshop elements to make it.

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions. The advice and tips that I give are based on personal experience, but are by no means to be taken as law. Please consult a trained, certified professional for all your firearms needs. Enjoy! Archives
