On this weekend's wild adventure, I caught Jaws! Ok, maybe just his 3 wayyyyyy smaller cousins. I went down to Dauphin Island to catch some Redfish but ended up with 3 Black Tail Sharks in the cooler! I've never caught a Black Tail, so I had A LOT to learn and I made some mistakes on the way, read below to learn some tips! I've only been doing this for two days, so if you see any mistakes I'm making, feel free to let me know! I'm taking all advice and tips myself.
catch it, gut it
This is the MOST IMPORTANT tip I will give you. Period. Sharks basically urine in themselves as they die, this will ruin the meat. I did it this weekend and was totally pissed when I put the meat on the grill. Gutting the Shark on sight will remove the "ammonia" taste. So catch it, gut it, and remove the head!
remove the urinary gland
Make sure that when you're gutting it, you remove the urinary gland! It's tough to find if you don't know what you're looking for. But watch the video and you'll see!
