As the years go by, we find ourselves in our cars more and more. But what are some essential items that we should keep in the car to help in case of breakdown or to assist someone in need? I will give a few items I have found useful over the years.
1. Jumper Cables – This is critical, everyone has had a battery die on them or wish they had a pair to assist a motorist in need. They are relatively cheap and last for a long time unless a friend “borrows” them...
2. First Aid Kit – It is impossible to tell when you will need a Band-Aid, gauze, or anything medical related. The average American spends 101 minutes driving per day, that’s a lot of time in the car! It is best to be prepared for all things.
3. Portable Battery Charger/ Tire Inflator – I have listed these two items together because they are usually in a 2-in-1 machine. I listed jumper cables first, BUT what if no car is around? Those cables have just become useless! Remember redundancy is a good thing when trying to get out a bad situation. Tire inflator, ok so we have a tire blowout and are forced to use that doughnut tire in the trunk we haven’t used in years. There is a STRONG chance that it will be low in air. The tires already have limited range (around 50-75 miles) so why shorten that with under-inflated tired?
4. Gun – Ok, I won’t go into this one much simply stated: “It’s better to have and not need than to need and not have.”
5. Small repair kit – Hoses will come loose, wires will get frayed, it’s best to be prepared. It is ALWAYS recommended to keep a screwdriver/socket set in your trunk because you just never know. Black electrical tape also can be a God send when a quick repair is needed to get you home!
These are just a few of the items that I recommend keeping in your car, if you have more drop a line in the comment and let me know what you keep in the car!
