Hood pins are a great way to add additional safety to your high performance vehicle. No one wants their hood smashing their windshield, especially in a high speed situation. The photo below is of my windshield after it was introduced to my hood.
1. Position your pins in an appropriate area and drill a 1/2 inch hole in the radiator support. Place stainless steel washers and one rubber washer on the bottom between the support and metal washer. Tighten loosely. Make a mark on top of the pin with white out and quickly close the hood to place a mark of where to drill.
2. After your spot to drill is marked under the hood. Drill a small hole in the center of the drill spot. Then use the Uni-Bit to slowly bore a hole slightly larger than the pin. Pull hood down and posiiton it over the top with approximately 1/8 " around the pin. At this time adjust the pin sot that the pin is showing the entire top cone and gap.
3. After the hole has appropriate space on top of the hood, bore and file the bottom portion.
4. Place the hoodpin on the hood and adjust the main pin until the hoodpin "clicks". Once this pin clicks into safety position for permanent placement. Mark the 3 holes and drill. Place the hoodpin on the vehicle aligned to drilled holes and making sure it "clicks" into safety position.
5. Now, using your nut driver and allen tool screw and permanantly install the main body of the hoodpin (some modification of underside portion of hood may need filed out to properly tighten-screws should only be through one layer!)
6. When you have the body tightened make sure it clicks with light pressure. You may need to adjust the pins several times to achieve this.
