In honor of the Season 6 Finale of The Walking Dead, we have a very special debate going on. Which is the better Z-Day weapon, Rick's Colt Python or Daryl's crossbow? Now this is a much closer race than I initially anticipated. And while I'm a huge fan of the chow and comic book series, I tried my best to put aside my personal opinions to make this comparison as objective as possible. Without further delay, here goes... The battle of the walker weapons! Let's start with a quick rundown of each weapon. It's safe to say that each of the characters is pretty proficient with his respective weapon so ease of use might be a wash. I've decided to rate the weapons on five areas of use: Effectiveness, Stealth, Ammo Availability, Kill Range, & Ease of use. As we've seen over the past 6 seasons, both weapons are definitely effective when it comes to taking our walkers and humans. No matter if it's a head shot from a bullet or bolt, the recipient is definitely going down and not getting back up. With that being said, the accuracy of a shoulder fired weapon will always trump a weapon that has, at most, two points of contact. I would be more inclined to give the nod to the Colt Python for its ease of followup shots. It is much easier to just pull the trigger again than it is to reload another bolt. We all know that when dealing with the undead, noise management is crucial. Killing one walker is good, but doing it without alerting a herd of others is definitely better. We've seen Rick use suppressive devices to muffle the sound of his pistol, but let's be real, it's a Colt Python! At the end of the day, the crossbow wins hands down. In the zombie apocalypse, a weapon is only as good as its ability to be used. That can't happen if there are no projectiles available. The Colt Python is chambered in .357 magnum while the crossbow uses 20" bolts. Now I'm not sure how with all the world gone to shit Rick is still able to find bullets for that revolver, but through the miracles of TV magic, he keeps on shooting. I know that it can also shoot .38 special, but come on! Now that Eugene has given him the cheat code to reloading, it would seem that he would be able to make more whenever he needs to. As for Daryl, he just has to retrieve his bolts after he hits his mark. If it weren't a TV show, Rick would have been out of rounds before season 1 was done and Daryl would still be Robin Hooding walkers. Point, crossbow. Let's be logical about this, we all know that a bullet can travel further than an arrow. Nobody can deny that. But in an apocalypse situation, that might not be as important as one might think. Most pistol shots are taken at or inside of 25 yards, and even that is pushing it. There is no doubt in my mind that a crossbow can handle that. Furthermore, Daryl's crossbow comes equipped with a scope when Rick's Python has only iron sights. Now... the fact that Rick was a Sheriff and carried the Python as his duty weapon has to play a part in this. It's safe to say that he is probably more efficient with it than most. The only thing is, if we consider that, we have to consider that Daryl is a hunter. He is no doubt more efficient with his weapon than most. This makes for a really tight race when it comes to which one is better. When it boils down to it, you have to ask yourself one question. With a zombie coming towards you at 75 feet, which would you rather have? The Colt Python with iron sights or the scoped crossbow? It's not just range, but KILL range. I'm going to have to say the crossbow. This one is pretty cut and dry. Which one is easier to pick up and use? Revolver or crossbow? Unless I'm forgetting something, the Colt Python is the easy choice. Now I know it kicks like a mule, but I've actually shot one of those things before. Recoil can definitely be managed. Plus, it can shoot .38 special if that's more comfortable for you. Now I know I said I would judge this off of five categories, but there is one that cannot be ignored, BadAssness! Let's be honest, looking the part is almost as important as playing it. Which is more badass, a shiny six inched barrel Colt Python revolver, or a 34 inch scoped crossbow. Believe it or not, I can't decide! I mean look at it, if a guy puts that gun in my face, I'm screwed. A little pee might even come out. But if a guy puts a crossbow in my face, I'm thinking, "You mean he doesn't even need a gun??" I would feel like I would see the bolt as it rushes towards my face and enters my ocular cavity. I'm pretty sure an equal amount of pee would come out. I dont even know why I bothered even considering this, it's definitely a tie! When I look back at the score, I see that the crossbow has a slight advantage. With that being said, I just can't choose it. I need to be able to make followup shots quickly, but the crossbow is so genius! I mean, I would definitely prefer a firearm, but the crossbow is quiet and I can reuse my ammo! This is one of the toughest decisions of my life. I need your help. Tell me in the comments which one is better!

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions.
