People have been asking this question for as long as there have been firearms, "How many rounds do I need to carry?" Well honestly, that's a personal question. Only you can answer it. However, I will leave you this piece of information, many pistol malfunctions are caused by magazine issues. If the magazine is the problem, you will at least need a spare to solve that problem. And if you're going to carry a spare magazine, you might as well load it. So now, off rip, you have two magazines. Now let's see how many rounds your magazine carries to decide if you need any more. If you don't know how you perform under stress, you have no clue how to tackle this question (get training!). You want to carry enough rounds to make sure that you are able to neutralize a reasonable threat in the environment that you are frequenting. There is no way I could possibly answer that for anyone, other than myself, but I personally carry three magazines for whatever pistol I have. That means that I will have at least twenty rounds to defend myself if need be. Also, depending on the weather and how much clothing I have to wear, I will carry more magazines or even more pistols. It just depends on the comfort level and what I feel that I can effectively conceal. No matter how many rounds you choose to carry, I know one thing, no one has ever said that they wish they didn't have so many rounds left over after a gunfight.

AuthorKeep in mind that I am by no means a gun expert. I have had some safety, handling, and shooting training, but nowhere near the amount I feel is needed to claim the "expert" title. With that being said, I am a man that owns a LOT of firearms, knives, and gear! I have been shooting since I could hold a rifle and have even competed in and won a few competitions. The advice and tips that I give are based on personal experience, but are by no means to be taken as law. Please consult a trained, certified professional for all your firearms needs. Enjoy! Archives
