This week we will feature a favorite of modern fighter jets, the Grumman
F-14 Tomcat designed for the U.S. Navy. The plane is a variable sweptwing, supersonic fighter designed for ship based operations. It's first flight was in December 1970 and was in continuous service until 2006 when it was replaced by the Boeing F-18 Hornet. Until it's retirement the Tomcat had been involved in every major U.S. Conflict and was even featured in the cult classic "Top Gun", that movie helped propel it into legendary status.
