So the U.S. Air Force announced the winner of the LRB competition on Tuesday of last week, and the winner was... Northrop Grumman. The company beat out a team of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, a very respectable team! The Northrop team also made the B2, which had to give them tremendous leverage and the ability to cut costs since a lot of the basic frame could be re-used. Many/most details of the plane are still highly classified, even the provider of the engine, but most analysts assume it's either Pratt & Whitney or General Electric. I think Boeing struggles with the tanker program and Lockheed with the F-35 possibility came into play. Although the winner is known it might be many years before the plane is seen by the public.
