Yes I know… this is my 3rd week in a row talking about the long range bomber but this is the last major aircraft contract for the US Air force for many years so it’s very important to the industry. As you all know Northrop won the bomber contract last week and as expected the big boys on the block (Boeing and Lockheed) protested the decision and want the competition re-analyzed. This is very similar to the tanker contract, Northrop initially won but Boeing was able to protest and get the decision overturned, will the same thing happen again? Chances are low. The highly classified program stops either company from being able to get public opinion involved and neither can use their lobbies to give any assistance, plus the deciding committee took extra time to make the decision protest proof (we see they failed), so all in all I think Boeing just lost this fight. So what does that mean for Boeing? Maybe have to purchase a smaller company to keep any military work going or hope and pray that a foreign country buys more F-15s or F-18s.
