YF-23, the loser in the competition with the YF-22 for the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition. The plane was designed by Northdrop. Although the beautiful aircraft lost the competition it won in 2/3 major categories, those being speed and stealth, but lacking in the agility portion. Overall this was a VERY capable jet, but the Air Force chose to award the contract to Lockheed.
So let's have a little history lesson, the first all metal production plane was the Boeing P-26 Peashooter! First flight was in 1932 and remained in service until 1956 am amazing length of time for planes of this era. The little plane was powered by 1 Pratt and Whitney R-1340 engine which allowed it to fly at a max speed of 234 MPH! The P-26 was involved in numerous deployments were it serves it's country well.
