The Lockheed Martin U-2 was THE primary reconnaissance plane during the Cold War. It was a single jet engine plane operated by the USAF and CIA with a climb ceiling of 70,000 feet higher than the ability of most surface to air missiles of that time. With the soviets realizing they were being watched by the plane they developed missiles to reach that altitude and as a result two were lost to missiles. Overall the plane has had a very successful history and new versions are still being flown today.... Say hello to the U-2!
As a man, you look at this and quickly say to yourself, "Mancave goals!" ... As a woman... Never mind. Keep out!
The Boeing B1-R, is a proposed upgrade of the B1-B that would use 4 F-119s engines instead of the current GE-F101 engine. With the change of engine hardware the B1-R would be able to super cruise and achieve maximum speeds of Mach 2.2. The downside of this “small” change would be that the range of the aircraft would be reduced by 20%, not a small number for the type of missions that the plane would go on this would not matter much. Overall this change would be great for the aircraft and put the B1-R in a class of its on.
